Motel 6 (late 60's/early 70's) (undated postcard image) Lincoln Car Hop (courtesy of Paul Urbahns) The Lincoln Car Hop, shown here in the 1950's, once occupied the spot where Long John Silvers stands at 31-W & 210. (Thanks to Karl & Janice Highbaugh for the info...and stories!) (...and thanks to Don Reynolds for the updated location info!) (According to Don, LJS was built ONTO the Lincoln Car Hop!) The headline from the October 30, 2003 issue of The Hardin County Independent said it all. Western Auto Associate Store The building still stands across the street from the Hardin County Justice Center, adjacent to the municipal parking lot. Western Auto blazed the path for True Value Hardware stores at various locations across the town, as well as Corbett's Hardware (another downtown merchant & later Ace Hardware). From staff files J.J. Newberry Co. A portion of which is currently Bi-Rite Furniture, Newberry's was a famous spot in the 50's with their soda fountain and candy stand! One of the first department stores in the city, this two story downtown attraction sported one of the town's first escalators...a real treat for youngsters (notice Marcum's 5 and Dime in the corner)!
